Do I need to book in advance to visit the museum?

No, you do not need to book in advance to visit the museum.

For organised groups we offer guided tours and educational programmes, which should be booked in advance.

When can I visit the museum free of charge?

Admission to the permanent exhibitions is free on the last Sunday of every month, as well as on 16 February, 11 March and 6 July.

How much is a ticket and who is entitled to a concession?

The ticket price depends on the exhibition you wish to visit and on any concession that applies. The full price list is in the section „All museum prices“.

Concessions apply to pupils and students, seniors (up to 80 years of age), soldiers, victims of the occupations and other target groups – on presentation of a supporting document.

Who can visit the museum free of charge?

Admission to the museum’s exhibitions is free for:

  • pre-school children (under 7);
  • orphans and children deprived of parental care;
  • people with disabilities and their companions;
  • seniors aged 80 and over;
  • Family Card holders;
  • employees of Lithuanian museums and ICOM members;
  • members of the Lithuanian Writers’ Union and the Lithuanian Journalists’ Union;
  • all visitors on the last Sunday of every month, on 16 February, 11 March and 6 July;
  • foreign nationals who have fled Ukraine.
Can I pay for a ticket by card?

Yes. At the ticket desks of the Maironis Lithuanian Literature Museum and its branches you can pay in cash or by bank card.

Which branches of the museum offer wedding ceremonies?

Wedding ceremonies can be held at the Maironis Lithuanian Literature Museum and at the Salomėja Nėris and Bernardas Bučas House-Museum.

Is there a fee for photo shoots?

A celebration photo shoot (wedding, christening, birthday or other occasion) in the gardens or cellars of the writers’ houses costs EUR 40.00.

Photo shoots in the writers’ memorial exhibitions and commercial photography or filming are subject to a separate agreement.

Does the museum have a car park?

The Maironis Lithuanian Literature Museum has no visitor car park (parking throughout Kaunas Old Town is paid). There is no parking at the Juozas Tumas-Vaižgantas Apartment-Museum, the Balys and Vanda Sruoga House-Museum or the Juozas Grušas House-Museum either.

The Children’s Literature Museum and the Salomėja Nėris and Bernardas Bučas House-Museum have car parks.

Is photography and filming allowed in the museum?

Visitors may photograph and film in the exhibitions free of charge (with some exceptions), but flash and tripods are not allowed.

Publishing photographs or footage for anything other than personal use requires the written permission of the museum director.

Is the museum accessible to people with disabilities?

The Maironis Lithuanian Literature Museum has a lift and adapted toilets for people with reduced mobility.

The branches – the Juozas Grušas, the Salomėja Nėris and Bernardas Bučas and the Balys and Vanda Sruoga House-Museums, the Juozas Tumas-Vaižgantas Apartment-Museum and the Children’s Literature Museum – are not adapted for people with reduced mobility.

Can I bring my pet to the museum?

Please do not bring animals inside the museum buildings (out of consideration for visitors with allergies and for the protection of the exhibits). If you visit the gardens of the Maironis Lithuanian Literature Museum or the Juozas Grušas House-Museum with your pet, water bowls are provided.
