The museum is located in Kaunas Žaliakalnis, in a house next to huge birch trees. Kaunas playwright, prose writer, translator, essayist Juozas Grušas lived and worked here. The writer’s house is of the traditional homestead type, comfortably and rationally invented and planned by the writer himself. Intensive creative life was constantly taking place in the writer’s house – gatherings of writers, painters and theaters, the most famous dramas and short stories were created here, and three Grušai children grew up here. The two largest rooms in the house ran daily life, there was both a study and a living room. Together with the hosts, old furniture came to the house: a bookcase, a cupboard, a chest of drawers with mirrors, a wardrobe, chandeliers. The old interior of the rooms, works of art and the surviving part of the library have been preserved so far. Kaunas Drama Theater in 1972. The performance based on Juozas Grušas’ drama “Barbora Radvilaitė” (dir. Jonas Jurašas) was recognized as a performance of the century. Visitors to the museum are invited to visit the specially equipped Barbora Hall and learn more about the drama productions in the theatrical exposition. The museum hosts excursions, quizzes, educational programs for visitors of all ages. Excursions and educational programs must be booked in advance.
