The museum opened in 1997 July 8. For many decades, the name of J. Tumas-Vaižgantas has been like a sign of our culture. Vaižgantas’ work and personality evoke the beginnings of goodness, beauty and justice, man’s efforts to overcome egoism, to live with love. Vaižgantas is the most popular pre-war priest in Kaunas. He worked at Vytautas Magnus Church, wrote articles, edited publications, and taught at the university.

Vaižgantas is the most prominent writer and publicist of the early 20th century. The museum, which is located in an apartment rented by a writer and a priest in the Old Town, hosts meetings with writers and new book presentation evenings. During literary evenings, people interested in literature can meet with writers, discuss newly published books, and participate in discussions. Visitors have the opportunity to get acquainted with the values ​​preserved in the museum, the personality, life and work of J. Tumas-Vaižgantas.
